This is a Royal Air Force (RAF) Airman's forage cap, also known as a side cap. These were worn by all airmen of the rank of Flight Sergeant and below throughout the Second World War. The cap is made of blue-grey wool. It features an original brass King's Crown cap badge and two brass King's Crown buttons on the front. This pattern of cap was issued shortly before the start of the Second World War. The cap replaced the peaked Service Dress cap for non-commissioned officers from 1940.
